Hereford Cathedral School students celebrated academic success today (August 19) as news of their excellent A-Level results came through from the examination boards.
Nearly three quarters (73.7%) of all grades achieved were at least a ‘B’ grade or above and 48.4% of all grades achieved were either ‘A*’ or ‘A’.
Out of 61 candidates, 34 achieved all ‘A*’-‘B’ grades, with 15 students gaining all ‘A*’–‘A’ grades, indicating why around 90% of Hereford Cathedral School leavers will expect to attain places at their first choice university.
Impressively, 12.1% of all grades were at the new ‘A*’ level. Three students who achieved more than one A* were India Benjamin, James Penney and Harrison Probert, whilst Michael Copley-May achieved 4 ‘A*’ grades.
The year was also particularly rewarding for a number of students who entered Hereford Cathedral School in the Sixth Form from other schools, including Elliot Gilford, Sandie Middleton, Hannah Warner, Niklas Deiwiks and Georgina Pudge, all of whom achieved excellent results.
As one of 250 leading independent schools in the UK and Republic of Ireland, Hereford Cathedral School demonstrated its high standard of teaching by maintaining consistently strong results in the traditionally ‘difficult’ subjects of Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Science, Latin, Spanish and Philosophy & Ethics. This year seven of the school’s A-Level Departments witnessed 100% ‘A*’-‘B’ pass rates.
Hereford Cathedral School’s strong tradition in Art and Music was also maintained, with both achieving 100% ‘A*’–‘B’ pass rates. A staggering 60% of all Art candidates achieved an ‘A*’ grade.
The AS results were excellent with 65.5% of all grades achieved being either an ‘A’ or ‘B’ making this the second best set of AS results ever achieved. Thirteen students achieved straight ‘A’ grades.
Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said:
“I am delighted by these superb A-Level results which are testament to all the hard work of our students and staff. Our students can all now proceed with confidence to the universities of their choice.”
“Our Sixth Form students have also yet again demonstrated that they can excel in their studies whilst also participating in a wide variety of extra-curricular pursuits.”
