Hereford Cathedral School is one of 250 HMC schools and, although by no means the biggest, the school certainly punches (or should I say, throws) above its weight.
Michael and Christopher Poolton competed in the Headmasters’ Conference Boys Independent Schools’ Judo Tournament recently in High Wycombe.
Christopher had a fantastic tournament and was unbeaten throughout, winning Gold for Hereford Cathedral School, and becoming Junior U55kg Independent Schools’ Champion. He was determined to win and had to beat a higher graded opponent in the semi-final who had travelled over from Belfast for the competition.
Michael - last years U16 U73kg Independent Schools Champion and U73kg British Schools Judo Championship silver medallist - had a very tough tournament fighting boys older and far heavier but still managed to gain Bronze for the Cathedral School.
Cathedral School students Christopher and Michael Poolton also both achieved a bronze medal in the British Schools Judo Competition in Sheffield, this year.
Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said :
“This is a fantastic achievement for both Christopher and Michael. Congratulations to them both. “
