Hereford Cathedral School celebrated the opening of its brand new Sports Hall with the help of double Olympic Gold Medallist, Dame Kelly Holmes, DBE. Dame Kelly addressed the junior and senior school pupils in Hereford Cathedral, inspiring them all with an outstanding presentation on self-belief, determination and teamwork. She later visited the junior school before finally cutting the ribbon to officially open the new Sports Hall.
The Sports Hall boasts first class facilities for badminton, five-a-side football, netball, basketball and four sets of cricket nets. The Sports Hall was designed by architects Godwin Austen Johnson and constructed by Owen Pell. In an address to The Mayor, Mayoress, Lord and Lady Darnley, Governors, Old Herefordian Trustees and numerous guests, the Headmaster, Mr Paul Smith, thanked Dame Kelly and said:
“There is no doubt that this Sports Hall will have a significant impact on the provision of sport not only across the complete age range of our pupils, but also to the wider community in Hereford and beyond. This is a very special day and highlights our continued determination to provide a first class education and to meet the school’s aims of providing opportunities for each pupil to develop every aspect of his or her potential.”
