It´s hard to believe that tomorrow we will be setting off for home but the taste of Spain we have had over the past few days has been a really memorable one. Following the 3 hour language sessión last Wednesday, the group enjoyed a bit of time by the hotel´s pools before we made our way to the local amusement park – “Tivoli World”. With most of Spain staying in to watch the football, the pupils were free to go on as many rides as they wanted with no need to queue, before the majority made their way back to the hotel and bed. Mr Lutley and Mr Petrie took a few lucky boys to a café with a large screen, where we witnessed the start of the night´s riotous celebrations. Walking home, every car was beeping its horn with people hanging out of windows and attempting to “bullfight” the traffic in the streets using their giant Spanish flags. It was not something the boys will forget in a hurry.
Yesterday we made an early start and caught our bus to the ancient muslim capital of Spain – Granada. The hottest day of the year in Spain so far saw us spending a Little shopping time in the centre before entering the wonderful “Alhambra” Palace and gardens, overlooking the city. Despite the extreme heat the students really appreciated the beauty of this World Heritage site and all were agreed that it had been well worth the journey.
This morning, Friday, we walked to a local market where students were required to fill in a language sheet and had to use much of the vocabulary they have been learning. Many presents were bought before we managed a quick pre-lunch swim, followed by out regular walk to lessons.
It has been a real pleasure to see the pupils grow in confidence with their Spanish and to hear them talking about how much they have enjoyed this whole Spanish experience – the weather, great food, good company, ancient sites, top visits and a semi final victory have all contributed to a superb trip.
Bueno, hasta lunes.
