Hereford Cathedral School students were jubilant today (August 24) as news of their stunning results spread across Herefordshire and beyond.
82.3% of all grades achieved were at least a ‘B’ grade or above and 56.7% of all grades achieved were either ‘A*’ or ‘A.’
Out of 85 candidates, 96% achieved all ‘A*’-‘C’ grades, with 14 students gaining all ‘A*’–‘A’ grades, indicating why the Cathedral School was ranked 24th nationally in the Independent Newspapers’ School League Table last year.
Impressively, 29% of all grades were at the ‘A*’ level. One third of candidates attained at least five or more ‘A*’ grades.
Three students who achieved 12 ‘A*’ grades were Amalie Fisher, Emma Leeman and Beth Smith, whilst Darcey Murphy and Michael Poolton achieved 11 ‘A*’ grades.
As in the A-Level examinations last week, the Cathedral School again achieved remarkable results in the traditionally ‘tough’ subjects of Mathematics, English and Science, for example 91.1% of Physics students gained an ‘A*’ – ‘A’ grade. This year 10 of the school’s GCSE Departments witnessed 100% ‘A*’-‘C’ pass rates.
Hereford Cathedral School’s strong tradition in creative subjects was also maintained, with Art, Design Technology, Music and Physical Education all achieving 100% ‘A*’–‘C’ pass rates. A staggering 64.5% of all Art candidates achieved an ‘A*’ grade, with 92.3% of Music students gaining an ‘A’ grade or above.
Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said:
“These are excellent results and I am delighted for the students, the staff and, of course, the students’ parents.”
“This years results continue the pattern set by our A-Level students, and further support our status as one of the leading schools in the country.”
“I look forward to welcoming back these successful pupils as part of our Sixth Form and also opening our doors to the many new faces joining us from other schools across the Marches.”
