Fifty years after his death, Albert Camus’ L’Etranger (The Outsider) was brought to life by retired Parisian academic, Jean-Claude Vignaud when he spoke to the Cercle Français de Hereford last week at Hereford Cathedral School.
In front of an audience of local sixth formers and slightly older Francophiles, Monsieur Vignaud’s talk dealt with the themes of solitude and light in the novel as well as the idea of the absurd.
Tim Lutley, Hereford Cathedral School’s Head of Modern Languages said:
“It was fantastic to see so many people at the thought-provoking lecture and it is no surprise that L’Etranger is still the most commonly studied text at A Level.”
