For many years, Hereford Cathedral School has been the only secondary school in Herefordshire to have an active chess club.  However, there is now a thriving Club at Lady Hawkins School in Kingsland.

Having previously lost to Lady Hawkins earlier in the year, the HCS team, of Geriant Downing, Jack Huffer, Chris Vincent, Gawain Melville, Luke Baker, Alex Hale and Joe Papworth, comfortable won the rematch six to one.

HCS pupils, Jack Huffer, Luke Baker and Gawain Melville have now also qualified for the UK Chess Challenge final in Derbyshire, which takes place on Sunday 17th July 2011.  With other Hereford Cathedral School players taking part in the Worcester Open Congress on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July 2011.
