Hereford Cathedral School's Under-13 girls have finished as runners-up in a prestigious national cricket tournament at Lord’s.
HCS, the Midlands tournament winners and Herefordshire champions, faced up to five other regional representatives, Ormskirk School (North), Latymer Girls (East), Ventnor School (South) and Cardiff Cathedral (Wales) in a tournament to determine the overall champions.
After a three-run win over Ormskirk in their first game when HCS bowled and fielded extremely well to restrict the opposition to 90, the second game was against the favourites, Latymer Girls.
Hereford Cathedral School only scored 73 before Latymer lost two early wickets but passed the total with two overs to spare.
The first game after lunch proved to be the highlight of the day.
Cardiff Cathedral scored 141 off 10 overs to set what appeared to be a winning total but fine HCS batting brought victory with a ball to spare.
Hereford Cathedral School had to win their last game against Ventnor and hope that Latymer would lose to Ormskirk to take the title.
Hereford played their part by scoring 157 for a 61-run success.
However Latymer proved too strong for Ormskirk and won the tournament but Hereford Cathedral School could feel proud of their second place from a competition entry of 575 schools.
