Four Hereford Cathedral School students celebrated musical success this week as they were awarded places in the National Schools’ Symphony Orchestra.

Talented Cathedral pupils Briony Seden (Violin), Rhain Evans (Viola), Sian Evans (Double Bass) and Jacob Wooderson (clarinet), will now join 90 other gifted musicians for a week of intensive rehearsals at Millfield School in Somerset.

The National Schools’ Symphony Orchestra attracts many of the Country’s top young musicians between the ages of 11 and 18, with the qualifying invitees enjoying a week-long masterclass.  The selected 90 students will be supported by a full team of top instrumental coaches and a high profile professional conductor to cover a varied repertoire, culminating in an orchestral concert at Millfield Concert Hall on Sunday, July 18.

Hereford Cathedral School enjoys a reputation for excellence in orchestral, chamber and choral music with a number of current and former students involved in the profession at a top level, including operatic singers and instrumentalists in many of the countries leading orchestras.

David Evans, Hereford Cathedral School’s Director of Music said:

“We are very proud of our students, and are delighted that they regularly achieve success and recognition on a national basis.”
