On Sunday 4th July we had a long drive to Newcastle for our first ever cricket festival. Dame Allen were the hosts and the side we played first at Percy Mane CC the next day. On a warm day with a quick outfield HCS batted first, the scoreboard was soon ticking over and after 20 overs we were 127-1, we eventually declared on 280-6 with Tom Allman scoring exactly 100, his first century ever! The Dame Allen batters started well but the large total soon took its toll and they slipped from 66-2 to 127 all out, Max Porter 3-10 and skipper James Bourden-Pierre 3-15 creating a large win for

The next day we met Bradford Grammar at Tynemouth CC, Bradford got off to a good start and after 22 overs were 88-0, but some accurate bowling created some rash shots and they were bowled out for 187, James Penney and Olly Cross both taking 4 wickets. Allman continued his form, scoring 62, Cross went for 34 but the two openers had laid the platform for a 6 wicket win, Max Foster 26 and Sam Johnston 28 finishing off the run chase.
The final game was against Ashville College, obviously we were determined to win, but we had worked out that scoring 6 bonus points would be enough to win the tournament. We struggled on a two paced wicket and managed to register 191, Will Tucker 28, Sam Johnston 26 and Max Porter 23 were the main contributors. Ashville lost an early wicket but a stand of 50 put them back on track, wickets fell regularly but boundaries enabled Ashville to get close to the HCS score, 4 runs were needed with last pair at the crease, 4 byes eventually winning the game for Ashville.
We had registered 8 bonus points and were declared the winners of the Festival, our thanks go to the other 3 teams and especially Mr John Benn from Dame Allen school, who created the tournament.
