Hereford Cathedral School welcomed students from Herefordshire and Worcestershire recently, as the school offered a free Smart Materials Lecture for keen design technologists.

The lecture, organised by the outstanding HCS Design Technology Department, and supplied by Dr Diane Aston of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, offered an informative outreach event, linked directly to GCSE and A Level specification.

Around 40 students were in attendance - from Hereford Cathedral School, Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School and Hanley Castle High School - between 10.40am and 11.50am, with each enjoying and making the most of the free learning opportunity.

Alex Howell, Hereford Cathedral School’s Design Technology Teacher and organiser of the Institute of Materials Lecture said:

“It was a privilege to be able to offer the outreach lecture.”

“We’ve had the lecture over the last few years and it has always been a very informative and successful way of delivering the topic.

“Dr Diane Aston is great value and engages with the pupils very well indeed.”
