HCS-Classics-Award-060711Hereford Cathedral School has won a national Classics Award after achieving the best point score of any English School for boys taking Classical Civilisations at A Level.

HCS has been awarded the 2011 Good Schools Guide A Level Award, in recognition of the schools underlying performance table results for the three years 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined, and in particular on the basis of the popularity of each subject relative to similar schools, and of the success that pupils achieve relative to the other examinations that they take.

Ralph Lucas, Editor of The Good Schools Guide said:

“Our aim is to highlight excellent teaching in individual subjects.”

Paul Smith, Hereford Cathedral School’s Headmaster said:

“I am delighted that HCS and the Classics Department has been recognised and rewarded for its excellent teaching at A Level.”

“The Department (Classics) works extremely hard for our A Level students, helping them to achieve top results. This Good Schools Guide Award further supports their efforts and their successes.”

In recent years, the HCS Classics Department has also developed strong partnerships with many local Herefordshire schools, and has offered several successful free classics outreach events, aimed at encouraging county participation in the subject.

Paul Smith, Headmaster adding:

“The Classics Department at HCS personifies one of our visions of being a community school; working for our pupils and our community.”

“We not only aim to immerse ourselves in our community, but also to serve it.”
