Marvellous mysteries in the making! PDF Print E-mail

‘Whodunnit’ mysteries fascinate all ages, and hundreds of children from local schools had a chance to learn about their particular favourites, when they met Caroline Lawrence, author of The Roman Mysteries.  Caroline’s series is set in Ancient Rome and has recently been televised on CBBC.  She outlined the 7 steps to great storytelling, as used by Hollywood film producers today.  Her entertaining breakdown of current films and the way they use classical characters was very revealing.  She also uses Roman artefacts to help her construct her plots and the clues in each mystery.  No-one there will forget her sponge-on-a-stick artefact and her hilarious explanations!

Pupils from HCS, HCJS, The Elms, Weobley Primary and St. John’s-on-the-Hill filled the sports hall for this event organised by the Library and Classics Department.  After her talk and refreshments, books were on sale for £1 each and Caroline signed over 300 books for pupils during her stay.  The local press attended and Radio Wyvern ran an interview with Caroline during the day.
