For many, the Sixth Form years are the 'best years' of secondary education. They certainly represent some of the most important years, forming a pivotal point in a young person's future education and career. To bring out the best in students a sixth form should capitalise on each individual's strengths, provide them with an opportunity to develop their own skills and interests, and take care to identify those specific weakness that need support, care and attention. None of this is easy, and requires experience, commitment, expertise, but most of all dedicated time. At Hereford Cathedral School, we pride ourselves in developing the necessary academic, pastoral and extracurricular framework to facilitate just such a sixth form, and with a track record in academic achievement, sixth form retention, and extracurricular involvement, it is little wonder that universities and employers are so keen to take on our students.
How do we do it? Small class sizes, excellent teaching, a realistic range of courses that universities and employers rate, high expectations, small tutor groups, and an outstanding personalised careers service all mean that our students receive individual attention. The school's innovative General Studies course enables students to gain valuable insights into courses such as Law, Medicine, and Journalism, whilst at the same time learning to drive, cook and become financially aware. No wonder so many of our students secure places at the university of their choice (98% this year), whilst at the same time continuing to be involved in sport, music, drama, Duke of Edinburgh and much more. At Hereford Cathedral School we believe that the sixth form is not a time to be giving up on interests, but rather a time when these should be strengthened, developed, and enriched by taking on new opportunities - we provide the means by which students can become easily involved.
Hereford Cathedral School's sixth form provides a friendly, truly coeducational, supportive, vibrant and life enriching opportunity for students who are going places, why not join us?
