boysgamesSixthFormImageHereford Cathedral School considers sport to be an important and major part of life in the Sixth Form.  There is a wide and varied range of sports options available on the Wednesday games afternoon.  The Cathedral School has an excellent reputation for major games and with full fixture lists and well organised coaching, many of the best sportsmen normally choose one of these options.

Cricket is the major Summer Term sport for boys.  Hereford Cathedral School is the only County school or college to play regular fixtures at Under 18 level.  There are two full time groundsmen who provide top class pitches at Wyeside.  There is a high-class fixture list and also a festival at the end of term.  Also, the Cathedral School has toured South Africa in February 2007.  Net practices, twice weekly during the summer and in the new sports hall there are four lanes of indoor nets. All teams are run by experienced staff, professionals and county coaches.  We are regular U12, U14 and U15 County Champions and go on to represent Herefordshire in National Cups.

Hereford Cathedral School provides a number of boys for the County youth sides and also the Minor Counties squad with whom the School has close links.

Cross Country (in the winter terms) and Athletics (in the summer) give participants the opportunity to train, practice and compete regularly.  The Cathedral School enters individuals and teams in Inter-School, County, District and National Championships.

Hockey is a growing successful sport at Hereford Cathedral School.  The 1st XI boys hockey team now plays a competitive fixture list and competes in regional tournaments as the top U18 hockey school in Herefordshire.

Rowing is availrowing1-webable for serious oarsmen.  Hereford Cathedral School produces crews that row to a high standard and with small groups the chances to develop under an experienced coach are enormous.  Training sessions are based at Hereford Rowing Club and the Cathedral School crews regularly attend regattas throughout the County and the region.

Rugby is the main winter sport for boys.  It is played to a high standard, earning the Cathedral School an excellent reputation both locally and nationally.  With a top class fixture list, training and player development is taken seriously; two training sessions per week with fixtures taking place mainly on Saturdays with occasional Wednesday matches.

Hereford Cathedral School produces a high percentage of the Under 18 County side, and many of its players go on to represent the North Midlands and national teams.  We recently have had two Welsh U18 Internationals at the School.  The first XV squad tour regularly; past trips include Zimbabwe, Holland and Canada.  Most recently there was a New Zealand/Fiji Tour in July 2003, Italy 2004 and France 2005. Belgium 2008 and N. Ireland 2009.

Robert Lewis, Old Herefordian, made his debut for Newport Dragons on Friday 3rd October 2008.

You can also choose from Badminton, Football, Swimming or Tennis.  The Cathedral School also runs a further range of sports in which there are representative sides.
