Music scholar Keeley secures a place at Chetham's

A young musician from Hereford Cathedral School has been accepted into the country’s most prestigious music school.
Year 11 music scholar, Keeley T, said it feels “amazing” to have been offered a place into Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, where she will begin her studies in September.
Talented musician Keeley plays viola, clarinet and piano at grade 8 standard, and is working towards grade 7 in singing. She sings in Hereford Cathedral School’s Chamber Choir, Chapel Choir and Cantabile Girls’ Choir. She also plays recorder in the HCS Recorder Consort and Gilbert Consort. She is pictured below left with her viola teacher, Mrs Shirley Aston.
Outside school, Keeley is a member of Hereford Youth Orchestra, Hereford Youth Concert Band, the English Symphony Orchestra Youth and Livewire (a pop and rock group in Hereford). Keeley also played one of the witches’ roles in this year’s HCS production of Macbeth at The Courtyard (pictured below).
At Chetham’s, Keeley will specialise in viola and clarinet as first study, while continuing to develop her piano and singing. Alongside this, she will be studying A-Levels in Music, Music Technology and Drama.
Keeley said the music teaching and support at Hereford Cathedral School had prepared her for this next exciting step in her education. “There’s so much music going on here. It has definitely prepared me well.”
