English Language & Literature

Why study English Language & Literature?

If you have always enjoyed your English lessons but want to take things on to the next level, then this is the course for you. If you want to become a highly skilled writer, capable of crafting your work for any given purpose or audience, then this is the course for you. If you enjoy reading a wide variety of texts, from great drama to cutting edge journalism, then this is the course for you.

Topics of study at A-Level

The course will give you the opportunity to read, analyse and investigate a range of texts and media, such as Othello and The Great Gatsby, as well as exposing you to an enormous variety of non-fiction writing, from journalism to blogs, email, text, speeches and letters. Considerable emphasis is placed on your own creative writing in both years of the Sixth Form.

It's fun! I didn't realise how the language we use shapes our thoughts, and how endlessly we are manipulated by the words that we are fed.
Iona, Sixth Form English Language & Literature Student
