Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome Greg Beardsell to lead a choral workshop day as part of Hereford Cathedral School’s Music Makers series.
Greg has extensive experience working with young voices, having formerly been Director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain for 20 years.
Greg spent the morning working with three of our school choirs: Chapel Choir, Colla Voce and the Year 5 & 6 Choir, leading singers through invaluable skills such as intonation, sight-singing, 4-part round singing and beat-boxing!
The afternoon session saw visitors from St James Primary School and St Thomas Cantilupe Primary School join for a fun workshop which included learning a specially chosen song to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
The children enjoyed learning ‘A Sentimental Journey’ recorded by Doris Day as her first number one hit, released at the end of the Second World War.
The video below shows pupils from HCJS and our guest schools singing the 4-part round, ‘Mrs O’Leary’.
Thanks to Greg for such an inspiring, fun and entertaining day!
