Hereford Cathedral School is proud to announce the return of its much-loved rugby Sevens tournament, reimagined as the Marches Centurion 7s, taking place on Sunday 8 March 2026 at Wyeside.

Formerly known as the Marches Sevens, the tournament was a major fixture in the UK school rugby calendar for over four decades. First established in 1977, it attracted top teams from across the country and often served as a key form guide ahead of the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens. From the grit of 2013’s flooding to the determination shown during Storm Freya in 2019, the tournament was always about more than sport – it celebrated character, community, passion and what it means to be Blue & Gold.

The new Marches Centurion 7s builds on that proud tradition with a fresh focus. Exclusively for schools with fewer than 100 boys in the Sixth Form, the tournament aims to level the playing field and champion teamwork, heart and resilience.

The competition will retain the original tournament structure, offering Cup, Vase and Bowl competitions to allow teams of varying strengths to compete meaningfully.

Head of Rugby Mr Milsom said: “The Marches Centurion 7s is a reimagined version of our renowned Marches 7s tournament. The aim is to create a level playing field where every team has a real opportunity to compete, progress and thrive.

“While major tournaments like Rosslyn Park remain incredibly valuable, we recognise that not all schools are operating on the same scale. The Centurion 7s will offer a fair and competitive environment, helping teams achieve meaningful success in a national tournament setting.”

To make this vision a reality, Hereford Cathedral School is inviting support from local businesses and the wider school community. There are a range of opportunities for involvement, from pitch-side banners and programme adverts to product partnerships.
