Last Friday, Year 2 pupils enjoyed a hands-on and educational trip to Growing Local at Southside Farm in Belmont.
The children took part in a full day of activities, including exploring different plants, tasting edible flowers and leaves, making salad dressing, planting seeds, creating a compost bin and investigating various types of soil. They were also the first school group to view the farm’s brand new wormery.
A particular highlight for many was picking and eating fresh strawberries and cucumbers – declared by several pupils to be “even better than Tesco’s”.
Staff at Growing Local praised the children for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour throughout the visit, despite the warm weather. Special thanks go to Kathy and Caroline from the farm for delivering such an engaging and informative experience.
