This week, we were honoured to celebrate the 100th birthday of former Hereford Cathedral Junior School pupil, Randy Langford.

Randy, a dear friend of the School, joined what was then known as Hereford Preparatory School in 1931, during the tenure of the formidable former Headmistress, Miss Gamlen.

Reflecting fondly on his time here, Randy spoke of how the School had prepared him well for adulthood, and expressed his gratitude for the lifelong friendships he made during those formative years.

As a teenager during the Second World War, Randy volunteered as a fire watcher, keeping a vigilant eye on the skies above Herefordshire from the top of the Cathedral.

During his visit, Randy and his daughter, Jessica, enjoyed afternoon tea — complete with a specially made cake — in Mrs Hoffmann’s office. He was especially delighted to see Miss Gamlen’s treasured tea set, gifted to the School in recent years by her family, taking pride of place as the table’s centrepiece.

A highlight of the afternoon came when our Reception children arrived to sing Happy Birthday to Randy and presented him with a beautiful handmade card.

Happy 100th birthday, Randy!
