Reach out, help us transform futures

At Hereford Cathedral School, we work hard to ensure that as many children as possible are able to enjoy the excellent opportunities we offer, regardless of their financial background. We always receive more requests for our means-tested bursaries than we can meet and so we continue to ask friends to give whatever they can to this most worthwhile cause. All donations will be used to build our fund for bursaries.

Since 2012, Old Herefordians, friends and parents have kindly donated over £150,000 to our Bursary Fund Appeal, for which we are very grateful. Some have given large sums, others a small sum each month. Both are equally appreciated and valued by the school and each contributes to transforming a life. This fund is invested to provide continuing income to fund places.

There is no minimum gift. Every donation, regardless of size, makes a real difference.

The bursary awarded to my family afforded me an education and wealth of opportunity that would otherwise have been unattainable. I am forever indebted to those who funded the scheme.

As we are a registered charity, it is possible to give in a number of ways and, depending on your circumstances, there can be tax advantages for both the School and the donor. Gifts do not always have to be in cash, nor do they have to be in your lifetime. However you give, your donation will go straight into our Bursary Fund, helping to widen access to an outstanding education.

Donate directly/online

You can donate directly to us by bank transfer for one-off donations or you can set up a standing order for regular donations with your bank. We would be grateful if you would email our Development Director, Mrs Claire Morgan-Jones, c.morganjones@herefordcs.com to let us know that you have made a donation via bank transfer.

Gifts of cash

Making a gift of any size using the Gift Aid Scheme allows us to reclaim from the Government the basic rate of tax on the gift which you have already paid as the donor.

Higher rate tax payers can claim tax relief on their donations by including them in the Gift Aid box on their Self Assessment Tax Return.

If you pay UK tax, please download our Gift Aid form here to enable us to reclaim tax which will enhance your gift by 25%.

Payroll giving

It is now possible to make donations to charities using the Payroll Giving Scheme by authorising your employer to deduct payment from your salary before calculating PAYE tax. The Government presently pays 10% on top of all payroll giving donations. Please contact your employer for further information.

Corporate Matching Schemes

Many business offer 'matching gift programmes' for employees and their families, which is a highly effective means of giving. If you would like to donate in this way, please speak to your employer and contact our Development Director, Mrs Claire Morgan-Jones on 01432 363590 or email c.morganjones@herefordcs.com.

Gifts of shares and securities

As a donor, you can achieve potentially large tax savings, not only on Capital Gains Tax, but on income tax as well, by gifting approved shares to a registered charity. For further details, please contact Mrs Claire Morgan-Jones, Development Director, on 01432 363590 or email c.morganjones@herefordcs.com.
