What are Hereford Cathedral looking for?
Many parents assume that their child has to be a musical genius to audition for the choir, but in fact what Hereford Cathedral is looking for is a child who enjoys singing, being part of a close-knit team and who, with their parents, will commit themselves to a demanding but immensely rewarding schedule. It is always useful if a child has some experience of a musical instrument but it is by no means essential.
The Cathedral Choir sings Evensong at 5.30pm on five days a week, and at three services on Sundays.
Choristers normally continue in the choir until their voices change or the end of Year 8, whichever is the sooner, and continue to receive a scholarship from the Cathedral and School until the end of Year 11. Additional financial support is available where needed.
