Huge congratulations to Hereford Cathedral School Year 11 pupil, George M, who has been handed the Speech & Drama trophy from this year’s Herefordshire Performing Arts Festival.

George received very high marks in his class entries, winning four gold medals, thus making him the highest-achieving candidate across the board at the annual festival.

Sixteen-year-old George won gold medals in solo acting, improvisation, sight reading and solo acting, and his performances included extracts from Romeo and Juliet;
To Kill a Mockingbird; One man, Two Governors; and Return of the King.

In recent years, George has performed in a raft of HCS productions, including Sister Act, A Christmas Carol and Frankenstein’s Aunt. He has also performed in numerous productions at The Courtyard, including Matilda, Les Miserables, Oliver!, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe and 9 to 5, as well as pro-am productions, Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden.

Commenting on his achievement, George said: “I really enjoyed the festival this year, having a great time acting, which was a nice break from exams. I am really pleased to have the Speech and Drama award after having such a great time, and it was great representing the school colours at the Herefordshire Festival.”
