Pupils at Hereford Cathedral School marked World Book Day with a variety of creative activities today, including a colourful costume parade, a diorama competition and a door dressing contest.

A highlight of the celebrations was the Junior School’s World Book Day parade, where pupils showcased an array of imaginative costumes. Among the characters brought to life were Mary Poppins, the Three Little Pigs, Oompa Loompas, Tintin, Gangsta Granny, Fantastic Mr Fox and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

The creativity continued with a diorama competition, open to HCJS families, where participants recreated scenes from beloved books. Some of the stories represented included Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter, Oi Dog, The Twits, and The Snail and the Whale. Pupils also decorated paper plates with illustrations of their favourite book characters.

Meanwhile, in the Senior School, students took part in a ‘door dressing’ competition, transforming their form room doors into celebrations of their favourite books. Prizes were given to the best door designs in each year group. The entries are pictured below.

The event highlighted the school’s enthusiasm for literature and creativity, encouraging pupils to engage with books in fun and imaginative ways.
