School Life

With small class sizes, specialist teaching staff and strong pastoral care, we ensure that each pupil at Hereford Cathedral School is treated as an individual. Traditional values are at the heart of what we do and with an excellent reputation for academic, artistic, musical, sporting and extra curricular success, we look to develop pupils who are happy, fulfilled and ready to make a positive contribution to school life and society.

Our curriculum is well-planned, wide-ranging and enriching. Its balance and focus on individual development helps us to stimulate enquiring minds, establish vital skills and spark passions for life.

In addition to their core and chosen subjects, pupils who don't speak English as their first language, will also receive EAL classes to support their academic studies (included in the international student fees).  The number of lessons will depend on the age of your child, but will normally be 2-5 periods per week. If further lessons are required, it may be possible but at a chargeable hourly rate.

The aims of the EAL classes are to help your child communicate with others through English, but also to prepare them for either the IGCSE ESL or the IELTS examination. Further, the course is designed to prepare students for university study, so will include things such as essay writing and presentation skills, library research and debating skills.
