Assistant Head (Sixth Form) 

September 2022

Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic Assistant Head (Sixth Form) who has the energy and vigour to lead and develop our Sixth Form. 
The Assistant Head (Sixth Form) would be a member of the Senior School SLT and would be expected to contribute to the wider development of the School.

General Responsibilities:
•    Strategic lead with operational responsibility for the Sixth Form;
•    Working with the Deputy Head (Academic) and Assistant Director of Studies, Tutors,
     other colleagues and parents to have academic oversight of all Sixth Formers, using
     academic data to inform understanding;
•    Working with the Deputy Head (Academic) to ensure that the post-16 curriculum meets the needs of the students and the School;
•    Working with the Senior Deputy Head to lead the Sixth Form tutors and to ensure the highest possible quality of pastoral care for all Sixth Form students;
•    Responsibility for Sixth Form routines and day-to-day discipline, including appearance, punctuality and work habits etc.;
•    Responsibility for the coordination, implementation, delivery and evaluation of the
     HCS Diploma – the Sixth Form programme which sits alongside formal qualifications to ensure that all students are real-world ready;
•    Working with the Marketing and Admissions Department to promote the Sixth Form
     both internally and externally;
•    Engaging with the community through partnerships, and developing opportunities for leadership and service among the students;
•    Strategic and overall operational responsibility for post-18 education including
     universities both within the UK and overseas (including predicted grades), degree
     apprenticeships, and careers, including the line management of the Head of Futures
     and UCAS coordinators;
•    Oversee and update any policies relating to the Sixth Form;
•    Working with other colleagues to promote the Sixth Form experience and opportunities to pupils in younger year groups, maximising retention from Year 11;
•    To lead on student wellbeing in the Sixth Form;
•    Organising key events for Sixth Formers such as the Year 13 leavers’ events.

Director of Music 

September 2022

Location: Hereford

Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint a talented, dynamic and enthusiastic Director of Music to lead all aspects of musical life across the whole School (3-18) and our hugely successful Music Department. 

This is a role for an experienced and capable musician, not necessarily first and foremost an experienced teacher, but someone who can lead a team of extremely capable instrumentalists, singers and academics, plan programmes and talk to people and audiences.

We seek someone:

  • Who can head and manage a large and diverse team of musicians, academics and administrative staff whilst maintaining political awareness, work with internal and external agencies and maintain a sense of humour; 
  • With an interest in all musical styles, from secular shows, musicals, instrumental music, choral music etc, to someone who is an experienced church musician who is sympathetic to the traditions of the Anglican Church with a knowledge of sacred repertoire and an ability to plan programmes;
  • Who is an advanced keyboard player who can lead rehearsals from the keyboard and who can accompany services on the Cathedral organ. Likewise accompanying individual performers to a relatively high level;
  • Preferably with some orchestral instrumental experience who can relate to a large team of experienced instrumentalists and instrumental teachers whilst remaining patient and understanding of their needs and work patterns;
  • Who is a conductor with experience of conducting orchestras, stage musicals and 
  • large-scale choral and orchestral concerts;
  • To front the School’s music, enthuse and inspire performers and congregations, and talk to audiences and large gatherings;
  • Who will quickly engender confidence and the respect of the local musical community.

This is an exciting and varied post within our supportive, happy and thriving musical community, which takes an active role in both Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Head Cook/Chef     

Hereford Cathedral School are looking to appoint a Head Cook/Chef to work in our Boarding House, Wilmot House with exciting opportunities to develop and showcase high levels of culinary skills and flair to support school catering services including: functions, leavers’ proms and parents evenings for up to 100 people. 

Location: Wilmot House, How Caple, Herefordshire, HR1 4TF and Hereford Cathedral School in central Hereford

Description:  27 hours per week over 5 days including alternating weekends. Full time work (35 hours per week) available during term time if preferred. 
Occasional overtime will be required.
Term-time and half terms plus 6 days (40.2 weeks per year) 
Salary: £23,042 per annum pro rata. This equates to £15,222 for 27 Hour week. (£12.66 per hour)

Free Live in accommodation may be available during term times and half terms.

The core purpose of this role is to provide outstanding suppers each weekday evening and exciting weekend and half-term meals.  The head cook/chef will ensure that all boarders, including those with special dietary, medical or religious needs, are provided with meals which are adequate in nutrition, quantity, quality, choice and variety.  Working with the School’s Catering Manager to plan menus, order food and prepare all meals for pupils and staff, maintain exemplary standards of cleanliness and hygiene standards and support boarding and school functions. 

Essential skills for this role are:
•    NVQ level 2/3 in food preparation and cookery or equivalent qualification
•    Previous experience of large scale cooking and food preparation in a high volume time bound environment
•    The ability to work on own initiative
•    Excellent verbal communication skills
•    Organisation and time management skills
•    Ability to work well under pressure
•    Happy to be flexible in approach to work
•    Confidence and experience to work alone or with minimal supervision
•    Develop exciting and inspiring menus for multinational pupils within budget
•    Order food and catering supplies
•    Able to work with the boarding house team
•    Supervise kitchen assistants 
•    Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people

Chemistry Technician (Maternity Cover) 

February 2022 

Location: Hereford   
Description: 35 hours per week - 8.30am to 4.00pm. Part time working may be considered. Term time (36 weeks per year)
Salary: Starting at FTE £19,247. This equates to £14,760 for work pattern detailed above. 

Hereford Cathedral School seeks to appoint a Science Technician (Chemistry) to cover Maternity leave from February 2022. We are looking for a skilled technician to assist the Head of Chemistry and teachers in the organisation, preparation and maintenance of resources and equipment for the chemistry department.

Our Science technicians:
•    Work primarily to the individual sciences but collegiately to help the Science department as required.
•    Provide all the required technical support to enable laboratories to function effectively whilst adhering to correct procedure and Health and Safety (H&S) guidelines.
•    Supervise stock control, order of materials and oversee the department materials and budget in consultation with Head of Chemistry.

We are looking for someone with good knowledge of the subject and the ability to form excellent working relationships. A willingness to support and ability to remain calm under pressure are essential criteria for this post.

Minibus Driver 

Location: Hereford

Description: 10 hours per week over 5 days. 6.30am-8.30am

or 20 hours and 6.30am-8.30 am 3.30pm -5.30pm

Term-time only (36 weeks)

Salary: 10 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £3,511.

Salary: 20 hours per week - £16,023 per annum pro rata. This equates to £7,022.

We are looking to appoint a skilled School Minibus Driver to join our transport department.

All drivers of the school minibuses must:

Be over 21 years of age (for insurance purposes)
Have held a category B licence for at least 2 years.
Have a D1 entitlement on their licence.
Undergo a minibus driving assessment and must successfully pass this test to be employed.
Ensure the emotional and physical welfare of the pupils in their care in line with Hereford Cathedral School Child Protection Guidelines
Duties shall include the following:

To safely transport pupils and staff from one location to another ensuring that all Road Traffic Act Legislation is adhered to.
To maintain good customer relations with parents and schools and contribute to a positive atmosphere on the minibus.
Carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks on minibus i.e. oil level, fuel, water etc.
