Glorious sunshine at Wyeside provided the perfect backdrop for a fantastic HCJS Sports Day last week, with Pre-Prep and Junior pupils putting on an exciting and energetic display of athletics.

The morning began with the Pre-Prep events, including closely fought sprints, the ever-challenging egg-and-spoon and teddy bear races, throwing events and the crowd-pleasing Pre-Prep relay. After all events were completed, Britten House surged into the lead with a strong 40-point advantage.

In the afternoon, it was the turn of the Juniors, who impressed spectators with some outstanding sprints, distance races and fiercely contested field events. No fewer than three school records fell during the course of the day: Jacob E broke the Year 5&6 boys chest push record with a mighty throw of 9.10m, Isabel V leapt to a new Year 3&4 girls standing long jump record of 1.60m, and Francesca N smashed the Year 5&6 girls high jump record with a personal best of 1.32m.

By the time the All Star Relays came around, the house competition had already been decided, with Britten securing a well-earned overall victory. Oakeley took second place, Matthews third and Woodall fourth.
