The Speakeasy was alive with talent last Friday as students took to the stage for a vibrant and varied Open Mic Night, featuring 20 impressive acts. The evening showcased a rich mix of bands, duos and solo performers, with genres ranging from musical theatre to pop, funk and rock.
Iris L in Year 7 captivated the audience with her original song Dark for voice and piano, while Carmen delivered a moving Brazilian ballad, beautifully sung in Portuguese.
The night saw debut performances from two student bands: WHC, featuring Chanin L, Ava S, Matthew L, Isaac S and Toby P, and Minerva, made up of Fifi P, Issy A, Lilah S, Poppy M and Ali B. Both bands were met with enthusiastic applause and set a high standard for future performances.
Headlining the event was instrumental trio, Parakeet, made up of Sam S, Ted S and Toby P, whose accomplished set brought energy and flair to the evening.
There were memorable solo moments too. Toby D had the audience singing along to his lively rendition of You’ll Be Back from Hamilton, and Enola H gave a heartfelt debut performance of Lay Me Down by Sam Smith. Cassie’s soulful interpretation of Why Try to Change Me Now was a particular highlight.
The evening was a true celebration of musical talent, creativity and student confidence, making for an unforgettable night at the Speakeasy.
